I’m shocked and out of instinct look back to see what they’re running from. Chinese people push and shove, old and young. Everyone turns into an animal in an every-man-for-himself attitude buried somewhere deep within all of us. ![]() I’m in line for the bus, but as soon as it arrives all hell breaks loose. Spitting, Shoving and Cutting - Manners in China There are a few other apps I’d recommend you get before you visit China. I’ve used a handful and the best one I’ve found is Express VPN. Having a reliable VPN for your China trip is so important and I recommend you get a good one. There are various free VPNs but they are all limited in some way and not reliable. Virtual Private Network: it’s a piece of software that tells the internet you’re actually in a different country routing all of your information to the server in that country. Get a VPN and the internet is open again. For rest of us, we’ll need a VPN. Gmail, Google (all Google products) Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Line etc. “Baidu it” will work better, but only if you can read and write Chinese. “Google it”, it’s become synonymous with looking anything up online. WeChat can be downloaded from the apple or Android app store and you don’t need a VPN to use it (unlike most of the other messaging apps) but I’d recommend downloading it before going to China as you won’t be able to access the Android app store without a VPN. So download it and set it up before you arrive in China. At the International Airports, you should be able to get free WiFi, but you MUST have WeChat on your phone already to access it. Pro Tip: Download WeChat BEFORE you get to China. Though with all translation apps, keep it to simple wording otherwise you might get some pretty odd translations. Having difficulties talking to someone? Add them to WeChat and chat away. Another great feature is that you can translate text messages from Chinese. If you want to make friends and be able to message them then this app is a must. And virtually every Chinese citizen has it. WeChat, it’s a mix of Messenger, Facebook, Apple pay, and a host of other smaller apps. Of all the China Travel Tips WeChat is perhaps the most important. ![]()
